We offer Admitted and Non-Admitted insurance coverage for above-ground and underground storage tanks. Admitted coverage is currently available in 26 states.

Admitted coverage is offered in the following states:

AL, AZ, AR, DE, IL, IN, IA, KS, ME, MA, MI, MN, MT, NV, NM, NY, NC, ND, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, WI, WY

Target Classes

The target classes for storage tank insurance are:

  • Underground Storage Tanks
  • Above Ground Storage Tanks

Unacceptable Classes

Unacceptable classes for Storage Tank liability insurance include:

  • Residential tanks
  • Septic tanks and wastewater or stormwater collection systems
  • Process tanks or oil water separators
  • Inoperative or not-in-service tanks
  • Portable tanks
  • Tank contents consisting of placarded hazardous materials or wastes including, but not limited to, anhydrous ammonia (NH3) or chlorine dioxide
  • Tanks greater than 100,000 gallons in capacity

The following exposures are offered only on a Surplus Lines/Non-Admitted basis:

  • Storage tank portfolios greater than 100 tanks (regardless of above-ground or underground status)
  • Single-walled (steel or fiberglass) tanks 25 years of age or older
  • Double-walled (steel or fiberglass) tanks greater than 30 years old
  • Double-walled (steel or fiberglass) tanks 30 years of age or older

All Surplus Lines/Non-Admitted offerings are fully subject to E&S Lines Due Diligence requirements for receiving a quote on Non-Admitted/Surplus Lines paper.

Documents Required for Proposal

  • Completed and signed Storage Tank application or competitor's application
  • Currently valued insurance company loss runs for the current policy period and two years prior
  • Recent tank tightness testing for any underground storage tank
  • Complete tank inventory schedule including location, tank size, tank construction, contents, piping construction, and monitoring system
