What It Means to Make the List
Companies recognized by the Best Places to Work for Women list are selected based on survey feedback gathered directly from current employees. The Best Companies Group reviews various benchmarks to find organizations that are uniquely “elevating, growing, and supporting” employees in their workplace.
Some of the categories evaluated for the award include advancement and leadership opportunities, talent retention, and workplace culture supporting employee success.
“We want to attract, retain, and motivate the best and brightest people in the industry,” said John Glomb, president and chief executive officer of Philadelphia Insurance Companies. “This award reflects our commitment to uplifting all of our employees and recognizing the diverse, talented individuals who strengthen TEAMPHLY.”
The recognition reflects several internal initiatives designed to support employees’ growth, development, and success.
Career Development
Development Programs
PHLY offers several development programs open to all employees.
The first is our Pitch for Purpose program. Participating employees use their diverse backgrounds and skillsets to develop and present an action plan to PHLY and non-profit leaders. This program offers experience-based learning as participants collaborate between sectors to develop solutions to address non-profits’ toughest challenges.
Second, our Job Shadow program pairs a “host” employee with an “observer” to share varying roles’ responsibilities within PHLY. Employees can learn more about the organization as a whole, recognize ways to better partner with other departments and even imagine the next phase of their career.
Third, our Leadership Academy is a leadership development program focused on current leaders. Through the academy, people managers can strengthen their leadership skills and explore ways to increase team engagement and production.
Finally, our Mentoring Connection program matches mentees with mentors for a year of monthly 1:1 meetings. Mentees share updates on their career development while mentors provide coaching, feedback, and support.
“Leadership’s commitment to developing female talent and providing opportunity in all areas for women shows the culture at PHLY," said Allyse Wolfinger, marketing representative and member of the PHLY Women’s Network.
By providing multiple programs to help develop our talent, we invest in the future of our employees and our company.

PHLY Women’s Network
Open to women and allies, the PHLY Women’s Network focuses on professional development, visibility, education, and relationship-building. To support these goals, the network hosts many events, including guest speakers on topics that affect women and allies in the workplace.
Recent events hosted by the network have focused on the adoption of AI, women’s health and wellness, and celebrating the career success of some of our female employees.
“There is a lot of opportunity at PHLY for women - not only from the many roles that make our daily operations run but also from groups to join that help support each other,” said Allyse.
Women in Sales Empowerment
Another group committed to making an impact for women and allies in the insurance industry is Women in Sales Empowerment (WISE).
WISE creates opportunities for mentorship, networking, and professional development at PHLY, particularly for women in marketing-focused roles. The group also hosts an annual sales meeting – this year held in San Diego in October - to deliver educational, thought-provoking content and create an opportunity for women and allies to share thoughts and ideas with each other and leadership.

“WISE has played a huge role in my first few years in the industry,” said Maggie Hackling, marketing representative and member of WISE. “Being able to lean on female leaders and peers for common hurdles and how we overcome them has been extremely uplifting. WISE has helped me and many others build confidence in this industry as a woman.”
WISE also delivers a company-wide newsletter titled “Word to the WISE.” This newsletter features industry men and women both inside and outside of PHLY.
“WISE offers a great support system of women from all different years of experience in the sales role to help and continue to foster our growth. Through the newsletter, we share insights, tips and tricks, and podcast recommendations throughout the year,” explained Allyse.
Community Impact
PHLY strives to make an impact in the communities where we live and work. That’s why in 2025, our employees completed over 24,000 volunteer hours and donated more than $12 million dollars to our non-profit partners in 2025.
One event PHLY participates in year after year is the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Apart from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer type in women. Participating in the walk helps support breast cancer survivors, raise awareness about reducing breast cancer risk, and advance breast cancer research and programs. We also match funds raised by participating employees up to $5,000.

During Women’s History Month in 2026, the Women’s Network wrote inspirational letters for women undergoing breast cancer through Girls Love Mail, supported a book donation drive benefiting the Chester CAAT Center, and assembled feminine hygiene kits for underserved schools. They also hosted a Habitat for Humanity Build, helping to create affordable housing in the Philadelphia area.

These events brought together women and allies across the company to serve a greater purpose.
Recognizing Talent
The Best Places to Work for Women award is a reflection of the teamwork and inclusion PHLY fosters through numerous programs within our organization.
“One of the things that makes PHLY special is its commitment to investing in women to create opportunities to grow. Women at PHLY are empowered to build meaningful careers while staying true to who they are, whether that means pursuing leadership opportunities, developing new skills, or balancing career and family priorities," said Maggie.
Our work goes far beyond the Best Places to Work for Women recognition. PHLY remains committed to fostering an environment where every employee feels valued and heard. Read our full diversity statement here.
