Company Will Plant 80,000 Trees Across Four States with Arbor Day Foundation

Bala Cynwyd, PA, April 27, 2018 - This Arbor Day, Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) is announcing the locations of its remaining tree planting efforts for this year and that it will be continuing its partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation for another year. The Company is setting a goal of planting 80,000 trees for the fourth consecutive year. The goal to fund the planting of 80,000 trees was reached in each of the three previous years with the help of PHLY's independent agents, brokers, and policyholders who enrolled into receiving paperless statements.

In January 2018, fifty PHLY employees traveled to Bastrop, TX to begin planting the trees funded by the 2017 PHLY 80K Trees campaign. The group joined Texas Parks and Wildlife to plant 3,500 trees in Bastrop State Park, a park devastated by wildfires. The Arbor Day Foundation will plant the balance of the 2017 campaign's 80,000 trees in Bastrop, Sandhills North Carolina, Chippewa National Forest in Minnesota, and the Flight 93 Memorial in Pennsylvania.

"These trees simply wouldn't have been planted without a group like PHLY saying 'this is important to our organization and we want to help the Arbor Day Foundation plant, nurture, and celebrate these trees'," shared Ben Wilinksy, corporate partnerships manager at Arbor Day Foundation.

To achieve the goal of planting another 80,000 trees, PHLY is once again engaging its independent agents and brokers and policyholders in a paperless initiative. For each new agent enrollment in direct deposit of commissions, PHLY will plant ten (10) trees on behalf of the agent. For each new policyholder enrollment in electronic billing, PHLY will plant fifteen (15) trees on behalf of the customer.

"The experience each year to make an impact across the country has deeply touched our employees, who are witnessing the devastation and planting new trees in Texas," shared Bob O'Leary, president and chief executive officer of Philadelphia Insurance Companies. "As an insurance company, we're accustomed to seeing the destruction from disasters but not always the restoration efforts. People in the community are also coming up to our employees to say thank you. It's been gratifying for us to see how we've helped these communities recover."

There are over one million acres in desperate need of replanting due to natural disasters according to the U.S. Forest Service. PHLY's efforts to support the planting of 80,000 more trees will help provide greater security to communities, including PHLY's policyholders.
