GREENPHLY is a team effort by all employees to protect and preserve the environment. We work within our community to promote the effective use, disposal, and recycling of resources by methods that are clean, safe, and healthy for the environment. We mentor our employees to become advocates to lead their families and community to preserve our world for future generations.
Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) is a charter member of the Greater Philadelphia Green Business Program. Here are the 69 steps PHLY has taken to reduce our impact on the environment.
What is the Green Business Program?
It is a public promise/commitment made by companies across the greater Philadelphia area to change their daily business practices to reduce their environmental impact. The commitment focuses on a
checklist of green operational practices designed for office users. Once a key leader in your firm has signed the commitment, the firm will be ranked as Basic, Silver, Gold or Platinum based on the number of green practices it has adopted.
Why do it?
Green business practices save money and give you a competitive advantage in a tough business environment - all the while, benefiting our community and our environment. These practices reduce energy
consumption, water use, waste generation, and greenhouse gas emissions. And by joining the Green Business Program, your company becomes part of a metropolitan Philadelphia - and global - movement, and
will be recognized for its leadership. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to network with the leaders of other like-minded companies. There's a lot to do, and many lessons and leading edge business practices to be shared!
Achieving Environmental Success Together
GREENPHLY partnered with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society for their 10th Annual Spring Into Your Park urban revitalization event. On April 18, 2009, over 2,000 volunteers cleaned-up 67 parks across the Philadelphia-region. Chairman & CEO Jamie Maguire and 75 PHLY employees volunteered, cleaning and greening Gorgas Park in Roxborough, PA. The PHLY volunteers contributed to the revitalization of the park by planting trees and flowers, as well as pulling weeds, and bagging trash. Jamie spoke of the importance of PHLY’s commitment to the environment, saying “As an industry leader, we have a strong responsibility to ‘green living’ within the community and workplace. We are proud to sponsor and participate in the 10th Anniversary of ‘Spring Into Your Park.’ This event truly highlights the importance of parks in community life.” PHLY’s involvement in the Spring Into Your Park initiative is a perfect example of the GREENPHLY council in action.
